The K-6 team wrestled at NRHEG last Saturday. We have a young youth team and I heard there was a lot of good wrestling! Below are a few of the pictures from the duals.
The youth wrestlers that earned the Wrestlers of the Week honors were the following:
PreK/K: Zander Hammel
1-3 Grade: Axel Markham
4-6 Grade: Bo Holst
As a reminder, this Friday night is our youth tournament! Weigh ins are between 4:30-5:45. ZM wrestlers try to get there early to get weighed in before the crowd arrives! This is a great time and I hope to see everyone there!!
Yesterday, ZM participated in day 1 of the 32 team Clash, with teams coming from across the US. Coming in as the overall #24 seed, they beat #8 from Staley, Mo, 30-29. In the second match, they faced the overall #9 seed Vacaville, Ca and won 30-29 as well. This earned them a place in the pool championship vs the overall #1 seed STMA. That match ended 55-9 in favor of STMA.
The strong showing means that ZM will fight for anywhere from 5th to 8th overall place today. this is an awesome showing so far from the team,…but they are not done yet!!
ZM will face #1-A Jackson County Central (Minnesota) today at 3pm. In their first match. Go Cougars!

Zumbrota-Mazeppa is one of 70 teams participating in the Bi-State Classic this Thursday and Friday, which showcases some of the best wrestlers from Minnesota and Wisconsin. Our wrestlers are ready to build on the success from last year (Highest finish for any Minnesota school, 7th place overall, and 3rd in the “AA” tier of teams).
New this year is the women’s only tournament, where we have our first woman’s entrant to the tournament, Kaydance Simota.
Your guide to watching the action remotely:
You need to be familiar with three different websites:
https://bistateclassic.com (referred to below as the bistate website). This website will be used to view the streams for all 10 mats on separate streams. (Click on “Video Stream” at the top of the home page) (Please consider donating some cash to the streaming. I can attest for last years tournament, it is well worth it!).
The tournament is split up into 4 sessions. On the bistate website, you will need to go to the appropriate session to view the live streams.
Session 1: (Thurs, Dec 29th 9am-5pm)
Session 2: (Thurs, Dec 29th 7:15pm-10:15pm)
Session 3: (Fri, Dec 30th 9:15am-2:30pm). In addition to the mens matches, this session is when the women’s matches will be wrestled beginning at approximately 10am. These matches will be on the same 10 mats.
Session 4: (Fri, Dec 30th 5:30pm-8:30pm)
You can find out what mats the ZM wrestlers are going to be on by going to the appropriate trackwrestling link: (Men or Women). On the left hand side, click on Mat Assignments, then Team Schedule in the main frame, and finally choose Zumbrota-Mazeppa for the team in the drop down menu. Once a wrestler has been assigned a mat (usually will be assigned a mat 2-3 matches before they wrestle), they will be on the list. You will need the Mat number to view the correct stream on the bistateclassic website.
We will be providing an update here after each session. Good luck Cougars!!
The youth room is in full swing right now, and it looks like they have been working hard! Each week, the coaches will pick wrestlers of the week in each wrestling room. They are chosen for their work ethic, attitude, and for being a great teammate! For week 1, the wrestlers of the week are:
