ZM Youth Wrestling Hosting Physical Fitness Nights

On Tuesday, November 14th and Monday, November 20th from 6- 7:00 PM, ZM Youth Wrestling will be hosting free Physical Fitness Nights open to any Pre-K thru 6th grade student.  The action will take place in the Mazeppa school wrestling room.  Fun activities are planned to help with strength, speed, agility, and endurance.  Wear a t-shirt, gym shorts, and clean tennis or wrestling shoes.  There is no cost and no experience necessary.  Join your friends and come make new ones!

The 2017-2018 Season is upon us!

Just a few updates & reminders as we get the season underway! 

  • Community Calendar Blitz will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18…stayed tuned to your email for details.
  • Online Team Store for clothing orders will be opening this week!
  • Practice begins on Monday, Nov. 20th…be sure to complete registration forms online ASAP via the ZM Schools website.
  • Wrestlers can take part in the Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving morning
    • TIME: 8 a.m.

    •  PLACE: Covered Bridge (library side)

    • COST: Free will donation for Zumbrota area food shelf –   Non-perishable food items or cash

  • CONGRATULATIONS to ZM Cougar senior Caden Steffen who signed a National Letter of Intent to wrestle for the Minnesota Golden Gophers next year!


Free Youth Wrestling Practice to be led by Link Steffen

The youth wrestling season (PreK-6th grade) will be starting soon and we’d like you to join us!  We hope to relay this information to as many ZM parents and youth as we can.  Please help us out by sharing this post!

New to wrestling or looking to try it again?  We are offering a free practice on Monday, November 6th at 6:00 PM in the Mazeppa school wrestling room led by high school coach Link Steffen.  This practice provides the opportunity to learn more about the sport without any commitment.  See this flyer for more details.

Registration is Monday, November 6th at 7:00 PM in Mazeppa school large gym.  We’ll cover practice schedule, important dates, opportunity to order singlets, and other essential information.  You can get a head start and download the registration form and bring it with you on the 6th.

9 Cougar wrestlers had the privilege to spend an hour with 2 of the best MN wrestlers of all-time, Mark Hall and Brady Berge.  Mark and Brady hosted a clinic prior to the InterMat JJ Classic in Rochester on Saturday, October 21.  At the clinic were Kaleb Lochner, Owen Lexvold, Gabe Tupper, Cain Lexvold, Luke Krier, Mark Hall (sitting), Jack Krier, Ryan Lexvold, Sam Moore, and Isaac Moore.  Competing in the JJ Classic were Michael Majerus and Ethan Kovars.

ZM Wrestling Camp (June 5-8) To Be Led By Ethan Lizak and Austin Goergen

The ZM Wrestling Camp starts tomorrow and runs through Thursday.  It is open to any ZM student in grades K-12.  The camp will be held in the Mazeppa large gym.  Times are 5:00 – 6:00 PM for grades K thru 6 and 6:15 – 7:30 PM  for grades 7 thru 12.  The complete flyer is here.

Clinicians for the week include:

Monday & Tuesday- Ethan Lizak.  Ethan wrestles for the MN Gophers and was a NCAA finalist at 125 lbs last year.
Wednesday- Austin Goergen.  Austin is a 4x D-II All-American at St. Cloud State and named Most Dominate Wrestler in D-II.
Thursday- Members of the ZM wrestling staff.

Ryan Lexvold was invited to participate in the Minnesota/Wisconsin Goodwill Duals Team Tournament.  The event took place on the UW-Eau Claire campus on Saturday, May 27.  This event matches up the state place-winners from MN and WI.  Each team wrestled 4 times, 2 in Freestyle and 2 in Greco-Roman.  The MN teams had a great showing winning all duals and Ryan finished 3-1.

Owen Lexvold MN/USA Freestyle and Greco State Champ; Brett Pfarr Leads Practices

6 ZM wrestlers took part in the MN/USA Kids-Cadets State Freestyle and Greco Tournaments over the weekend in Monticello.  Owen Lexvold was able to claim the championship in both styles at Bantam 75 lbs.  Ryan Lexvold earned runner-up in Greco and 4th place in freestyle at Novice 112.  Cain Lexvold placed 4th in freestyle and didn’t place in Greco at Intermediate 80.  Michael Majerus earned 5th in freestyle, DNP in Greco at Cadet 106.  Jack Haglund DNP in Greco at Cadet 195.  Congratulations boys!

ZM wrestling was honored to host MN Gopher and NCAA national runner-up Brett Pfarr in Mazeppa to lead 4 practices for the 7-12 graders.  Brett was a tremendous clinician and a pleasure to have in the wrestling room.  Thank you Brett!

Haglund Selected as Guillotine 2017 Academic All-State Wrestler

Congratulations to Jarret Haglund for earning a spot on the 2017 Academic All-State Team selected by The Guillotine! Jarret is a wonderful young man who continually works hard both in the classroom and on the mat. Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association Awards

Congratulations to ZM Coaches Link Steffen and Mark Krier for being selected as the 2017 Minnesota Head Coach & Assistant Coach of the Year! Link and Mark were recognized at the MWCA/Dave Bartelma Hall of Fame Banquet on April 29th. Well deserved!!!
