Youth Practice Starts Tuesday

Due to the school closing on Monday, we will start practice Tuesday night instead.  PreK and K practice will be from 5:30 to 6:30 in the old wrestling room.  1st thru 3rd grade will be from 5:30 to 6:30 in the new wrestling room.  And 4th thru 6th grade will be from 6:30 to 7:30 in new wrestling room.

New to wrestling?  Here is what to expect.

Youth wrestling activities for this week are below.

  • Tuesday: Practice begins.  Remember to pick up your t-shirts and and warm-ups at the concession stand after practice.
  • Thursday: Wrestlers should wear their new ZM Wrestling t-shirt to school on Thursday and come watch the JV/V take on Byron in Mazeppa that evening.  Our 4th grade wrestlers will be recognized prior to the varsity dual and receiving wind jackets.
  • Friday: Open mat from 5:30 to 6:30 PM in the new wrestling room.
  • Saturday: Youth Open in Eyota.  Let’s see if we can get 15 Cougars wrestling here!
  • Sunday, January 12:

Ryan Lexvold, Cole Poncelet, and Michael Majerus competed in the Badgerland Nationals in La Crosse on Saturday.  In addition to wrestling, the boys enjoyed eating at Buffalo Wild Wings and waving to each passing car on the way home.

14 Wrestle in Plainview; Youth Open Mat Tomorrow

14 wrestlers found time during the holiday break to participate in the ‘Festivus for the Wrestivus’ tournament in Plainview on Saturday.  The boys had an overall record of 22 wins and 13 losses, including 5 that went undefeated.  Keep it up guys!

Participating on Saturday were: Gunner and Tanner Mancilman, Cain and Ryan Lexvold, Sam and Isaac Moore, Isaiah O’Reilly, Michael Majerus, Dalton Hall, Cole Poncelet, Luke and Jack Krier, Ethan Kovars, and Nathan Haltom.

Youth wrestling activities for this week are below.

  • Open Mat: Monday, December 30th from 6:00-7:00 PM in the Mazeppa wrestling room.  Any wrestler looking for a little extra mat time is welcome to attend.  Last one before practice begins on January 6th.
  • Tournaments: Farmington and Waterville on Friday, January 3rd.  Rushford on Saturday, January 4th.

21 Wrestle in Goodhue; Youth Open Mat Tomorrow

We surpassed our goal and had 21 wrestlers partake in the tournament in Goodhue on Saturday.  The boys had an overall record of 31 wins and 21 losses, including 8 that went undefeated.  A great job by all!  They wrestled hard and were mat side cheering each other on.

Participating on Saturday were: Gunner and Tanner Mancilman, Kaleb and Blake Lochner, Cain and Ryan Lexvold, Sam and Isaac Moore, Hayden Ferguson, Isaiah O’Reilly, Spencer Krone, Michael Majerus, Dalton Hall, Lucas Scheill, Carson Dillon, John Poulin, Riley Walerak, Gabe Tupper, Mason Edstrom, Kyle Stensland, and Cole Poncelet.

  • Open Mat: Monday, December 23rd from 6:00-7:00 PM in the Mazeppa wrestling room.  Any wrestler looking for a little extra mat time is welcome to attend.  This is a great opportunity to get some individual instruction.  Don’t be afraid to approach a coach.  They are there to help!
  • Tournament: Plainview on Saturday, December 28th.  Details here.  Let’s see if we can get another 20 Cougars wrestling on Saturday!

Youth wrestling activities for this week are below.

  • Open Mat: Monday, December 16th from 6:00-7:00 PM in the Mazeppa wrestling room.  Any wrestler looking for a little extra mat time is welcome to attend.  This is a great opportunity to get some individual instruction.  Don’t be afraid to approach a coach.  They are there to help!
  • Tournament: Goodhue on Saturday, December 21st.  Details here. We will not be taking a bus, but let’s see if we can get 20 Cougars wrestling on Saturday!

The 2013 5002 Club; Youth Wrestling Activities for Week of December 8, 2013

The 2013 5002 Club was introduced Friday night in front of the varsity crowd.  There were 15 wrestlers who completed the requirements to become a member.  They are:

  • Scrimmage with KW: Friday, December 13th starting at 5:30 PM in the Mazeppa wrestling room.  Please arrive at 5:15.  If your wrestler is not signed up and would like to participate, please e-mail youthcoordinator@zmwrestling.com.  We will be looking for parent volunteers to help referee and keep score.
  • Watch the Varsity take on KW: After the scrimmage, watch the varsity take on their rivals from KW!  Have your wrestler bring an item for the local food shelf to the wrestling match and they will be entered in a drawing.
  • Tournaments: Byron and St. Charles on Saturday, December 14th.  Both are afternoon tournaments.  Pine Island tournament on Sunday, December 15th.  All details available on The Guillotine calendar.

2013 summer 5002 calendar

I’ve attached a ‘5002 calendar’ for those who want to try 5002 for next season.

5002 night Itinerary:
-please have your 5002 wrestler wear a ZM wrestling t-shirt
-have them there by 6:00pm
-6:30-6:45 we will meet by the south wall (by concessions) I will explain what we are to do
-6:45ish I will walk the 2013 5002 club members onto mat, introduce what 5002 is, then introduce them!
-I will also present the boys with their new ‘5002 shirts’ in which they will put on at this time

This is one of my favorite nights of the year! Please pump your little up for it…they’ve earned it!

Signup for Youth Scrimmages

Our youth wrestlers have the opportunity to scrimmage during two home Varsity/JV meets in Mazeppa this December.  Preliminary details are below.  Please e-mail youthcoordinator@zmwrestling.com if your wrestler(s) would like to participate.  If your wrestler did not get weighed on registration night, please include their weight in the e-mail so we can pair them with other wrestlers accordingly.  We’ll need parent volunteers for referees and table workers.  Please let us know if you can help!

Dates:
Friday, December 6th vs. Cannon Falls
Friday, December 13th vs. KW & PI

Wrestlers should arrive at 5:15.  Start scrimmages at 5:30.  We should be done no later than 7.  Scrimmages will be held in the new wrestling room.

The first scrimmage is also 5002 club night.  We’ll make sure to be done by the time those wrestlers get introduced to the crowd.
