ZM Youth Wrestling Registration Open Now!

The youth wrestling season (boys and girls in PreK-6th grade) will be starting soon and we’d like you to join us!  We hope to relay this information to as many ZM parents and youth as we can. Please help us out by sharing!

New to wrestling or looking to try it again?  We are offering free clinics on Monday, November 15th in the Mazeppa school wrestling room. The girls only clinic will be at 5:30 PM, and anyone else at 6:30 PM.  This practice provides the opportunity to learn more about the sport without any commitment.  See this flyer for more details.

Register online through Community Education by November 17th to receive a t-shirt.

We’ll also hold an open house on Monday, November 8th and Tuesday, November 9th from 5:30 PM – 7:30. Swing by the Mazeppa school wrestling room before or after your parent-teacher conference to meet the coaches and learn more about the program. Don’t forget to bring your unwanted wrestling gear.  Be sure to mark it with your name and asking price.

Finally, don’t forget clothing and gear orders close on October 31st. See this post for details.

ZM Wrestling Clothing and Gear Store Open Until October 31st

ZM Wrestling Clothing and Gear stores are open now until October 31st! Youth and high school orders will NOT be separate this year, so please place your orders now. There are 2 stores – one through Rebyl Sports for singlets, matching fight shorts and hoodies (high school singlets are provided by the school):

https://rebylonline.com/zumbrota_mazeppa_wrestling/shop/home

and one through Insignia Printing for your traditional hoodies, joggers, t-shirts, etc. :

https://insigniascreenprinting.printavo.com/merch/zm-wres

Please spread the word!

We have ordered singlets through this company in the past, and sizing runs very true to the sizing chart listed through Rebyl. In my experience, the fight shorts are generous in sizing (especially given the new trend of wearing shorter shorts). As a reference, all of my boys wear a size smaller than they typically do. Owen wears an adult XS, Cain a Medium, and Ryan a Medium (again, short shorts)! The brand is My House, a brand we have used in the past for singlets and warm-ups.

We are opening and closing the order before the season officially starts in an effort to get gear here in time for the majority of the season, and holidays as well. Cross your fingers!

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have. Thanks, and GO COUGARS! Lacey Lexvold youthcoordinator@zmwrestling.com

High School and Youth Combine for 8-2 Record to Start the Season

The high school opened their season last Thursday with a win over Byron followed by a loss to Dover-Eyota.  The Cougars then headed north to face Maple Grove and a father-son coaching battle with Centennial.   The Cougars were able to earn both victories on Friday night.

The youth team competed in “The Brawl” in St. Michael over the course of 2 weekends.  The young Cougars opened with wins over Monticello and Le Sueur-Henderson, followed by a close lose to Wayzata that went down to the last match.  On the final day they were able to top New London-Spicer, St. Francis, and Blaine to earn 5th place out of 28 teams.

Leo Beyer (Seth and Tracey) was our Wrestler of the Week in Pod 1.  Keep it up Leo!

Team LaGosh Named “Team of the Week”

Since ZM Youth Wrestling has been unable to hold in-person practices to date, the coaches have designed fun activities the kids can be involved in during the month of December.

This past week we’ve held Zoom training sessions and also created a “Weekly Challenge”. We had 10 teams of 6-7 kids involved.  The challenge included:
1) doing a chore
2) performing rounds of push-ups, sit-up, and jumping lunges
3) spending 30 minutes outside
The round goal varied between teams based on member age.

Our “Team of the Week” based on results is Team Watkins! Members are Patrick Fruth, Gavin Johnson, Jase and Kade McNamara, Caden Lohmann, Jaxon Liffrig, and Jacob Scharpen. These animals combined to complete 272 rounds of push-ups, sit-ups, and jumping lunges. Good job boys!
