The first rounds of the section team tournament will kick off on Thursday night in the Mazeppa gym. First match is at 6pm between #8 seed Byron vs #9 seed Lake City. The winner of that match will face #1 seed Zumbrota-Mazeppa at 7:15pm. The winner of that match will be wrestling in the Semifinals at the Mayo Civic Center on Saturday beginning at noon. Please join us in Mazeppa on Thursday night to show our support! We will have a live stream for those that cannot make it.


On Thursday night, ZM beat Caledonia-Houston 53-9. In the 2nd dual of the night, ZM blanked Lake City, winning 74-0. On Saturday, the team traveled up to Park High School for 4 duals against AAA opponents Mahtomedi, Anoka, Cambridge Isanti, and #7 ranked Park.
First dual ZM won 59-9 against Mahtomedi. Next beat Anoka 49-19. Cambridge Isanti 48-19. And finally beat Park 57-13. Dominate day against some pretty big schools! Pictures from all weeks duals can be viewed here.

The JH team was in Ellsworth WI in an 8 team bracket. ZM had wins over Farmington, STMA and Cambridge Isanti to win the tournament.

On Friday night, Zumbrota Mazeppa beat Pine Island 49-12. In the marquee matchup of the night, our #8 AA ZM beat the #9 AAA Rochester Mayo 49-21! On Saturday morning, ZM traveled to Glencoe for an individual tournament that included #6 AA Watertown-Mayer and #1 A Jackson County Central. ZM ran away from the field with a comfortable 52.5 point advantage. Jack Krier got Outstanding Wrestler at the tournament, and Zumbrota Mazeppa won the sportsmanship award at the trophy…The trifecta! The ZM JVs spent the day in Mazeppa finishing 2nd in the home JV tournament, beating Apple Valley, Holmen WI, Albert Lea and Dover Eyota while dropping a dual vs Shakopee.

Zumbrota Mazeppa hosted 3 other teams on Saturday at the high school for a quad dual tournament: Centennial, Kenyon Wanamingo, and Owatonna. ZM led off with a 62-15 victory over Centennial, who is coached by Link Steffen’s son, Chase.
In the second match of the day, the Cougars beat traditional AAA power Owatonna by 58-13.
Finally, renewing the battle of Hwy 60, ZM topped Kenyon-Wanamingo 39-21. It was great seeing this rivalry happen again, as KW has changed conferences, we see each other fewer times.
