The ZM Wrestling Summer Camp is only 5 days away.  To sign up, please fill out and mail in the registration form.  Scott Snobl will be the guest clinician the first 2 days of camp.  Austin Goergen will lead days 3 and 4.

InnerDrive summer wrestling starts in about 2 weeks and there is still room if you are interested in getting some great summer workouts.  A fresh variety of practice partners and an opportunity to learn from some of the best coaches around the area makes the InnerDrive room a place where you can make it possible to reach your goals.

Northern Plains Regional Championships

Eight ZM Cougars wrestled in the Northern Plains Regional Championships this past weekend at RCTC: Michael Majerus, Michael Vath, Hayden Stensland, Spencer DeFrang, Hayden Voxland, Caden Steffen, Jacob Bennett, and Jarret Haglund.

The Cougars had 3 placewinners who are now qualified for the Cadet Nationals in Fargo in July.  Michael Majerus placed 4th in Greco Roman, Jacob Bennett placed 3rd in Greco Roman, and Caden Steffen placed 1st in Greco Roman & 2nd in Freestyle.

Caden Steffen Repeats as MN/USA Freestyle State Champion

Eight ZM wrestlers took part in the MN/USA Kids & Cadets State Greco and Freestyle Tournament last weekend in Monticello.  Caden Steffen led the way with a state title in Freestyle.  Also competing were Cain Lexvold (2nd/2nd),  Ryan Lexvold (DNP) , Michael Majerus (3rd/3rd), Ben Roberts (2nd in Greco), Jack Haglund (2nd/2nd), Jacob Bennett (5th in Freestyle), and Tyler Soltau (6th/DNP).

If you know Cain, it comes as no surprise he is wearing his headgear in each of these pictures.  Always ready to throw down, even with Tyler!

A reminder that the ZM wrestling camp for any student grades K–12 (2015-2016) will be held June 6-9 in Mazeppa.

Jarret Haglund Places 6th at Junior State Freestyle

Jarret Haglund wrestled in the MN/USA Junior State Freestyle Tournament at Augsburg College this weekend.  Jarret earned 6th place at 195 lbs and continues to build on his successful folkstyle season.  Congratulations Jarret!

ZM Wrestling has also been putting in work off the mat and giving back to the community.  Many wrestlers and volunteers helped with the Adopt-a-Highway cleanup on a 2 mile stretch of Highway 52 north of Zumbrota.  ZM Wrestling also donated 2 hours of yard work in the silent auction for the Kelsey Bradley benefit.  Matt Biever was the highest bidder and Caden Steffen, Spencer Defrang, Jacob Bennett, and Jack Haglund all pitched in on Sunday to help with Matt’s to-do list.

Roadside Cleanup Tuesday, April 12 at 6PM

Adopt-a-Highway cleanup is scheduled for Tuesday, April 12th.  Wrestlers and volunteers are to meet at back of high school at 6:00 PM.  Appropriate dress would include pants, long sleeves, gloves, and old shoes or work boots.  Safety vests will be provided.  Parents are welcome and encouraged to help also!

12 Z-M wrestlers competed in Apple Valley at the Freestyle MN/USA State Qualifier on Saturday.  They were: Cain and Ryan Lexvold, Lucas Schiell, Michael Majerus, Hayden Voxland, Tyler Soltau, Hayden Stensland, Caden Steffen, Jarrett Haglund, Jacob Bennett, Luke Tupper, and Sam Nordquist.

3 Individual Placewinners at NYWA State; K-6 Team Finishes Strong

Lots of wrestling this weekend at the Mayo Civic Center where the NYWA State Tournament was held.  Individually, Owen Lexvold led the way for the Cougars with a 2nd place finish at Kindergarten 65 lbs.  Gunner Mancilman and Jack Krier also earned a spot on the podium, each earning 5th place.  Also competing were Sam Moore (1-2), Cain Lexvold (2-2), Dalton Hall (0-2), Andrew Banitt (0-2), and Nathan Halton (0-2).

Wrestling in the NYWA Invite were Cole Poncelet (1st), Mason Edstrom (3rd), Isaiah O’Reilly (4th), and Lucas Schiell (DNP).

The K-6 team was able to take home the Pool 8 Championship, finishing with an overall record of 2-3 for the weekend.  ZM fell to a tough Waconia team to open the tournament, followed by losses to MAHACA and St. Peter.  The group came storming back on Sunday to defeat both Marshall/LV/RTR and Perham to win the Pool 8 Championship.

Youth Team Qualifies for NYWA State! 8 Individuals Advance

What a great weekend of wrestling for our club!  The youth team earned 6th place at Regions to advance to the NYWA State Tournament.  The kids were able to knock off 2 teams they had lost to earlier in the year in Caledonia and Chatfield.  They also earned a victory over Owatonna while falling to GMLOK, Dover-Eyota, and Cannon Falls.  Great effort and sportsmanship was shown by each wrestler.  The coaches couldn’t be more proud of this group!

21 wrestlers competed at NYWA Regions with 8 advancing to the State Tournament by placing in the top 3.  Earning a trip were Owen and Cain Lexvold, Sam Moore, Gunner Mancilman, Jack Krier, Gabe Tupper, Andrew Banitt, and Nathan Haltom.  Congratulations to all!

3 Cougars Place at MN/USA Kids State Folkstyle

11 ZM wrestlers took part in the MN/USA Kids State Folkstyle Tournament this weekend.  Jent Beyer and Cain Lexvold both reached the podium and placed 4th in their weight classes.  Jack Haglund had a 6th place finish.  Also competing were Leo Beyer, Cole and Lucas Schiell, Samuel Moore, Owen and Ryan Lexvold, Laiken Copemen, and John Poulin.

Luke Tupper is MN/USA State Folkstyle Champion!

8 ZM wrestlers squared off in Anoka today at the MN/USA Juniors and Cadets State Folkstyle Tournament.  Leading the way was Luke Tupper with a 1st place finish in the Junior division at 138 lbs.  Also placing were Maverick Jackson (2nd, Junior 152), Jacob Bennett (2nd, Cadet 182), Michael Majerus (4th, Cadet 94), Tyler Soltau (5th, Cadet 160), Jarret Haglund (5th, Junior 220).  Andrew Banitt and and Sam Nordquist each went 1-2.

Freestyle and Greco Practices

There are several places to attend Freestyle and Greco wrestling practices this spring.  For Schoolboy and under (born 2002 or later), there will be practices held Monday nights at Rochester Mayo High School starting March 21st.  For Cadets and Juniors (born 2001 or earlier), there will be practices held Thursday nights at RCTC led by Matt Mauseth, Monday nights at RCTC led by Jim Richardson, and Monday and Wednesday nights at Augsburg led by Dan Chandler and Jayson Ness.
