Youth Team Takes 3rd; Edstrom, Siewert, and Krier are Wrestlers of the Week

The ZM youth wrestling team took part in the Chatfield dual tournament yesterday and earned 3rd place. The team had victories over PEM and St. Charles and lost in a barn burner to Chatfield.

The 4th through 6th graders were honored to have former ZM wrestling standout, and great young man, Joey Majerus lead practice last week.

Our Wrestlers of the Week are Kolton Edstrom, JaNoah Siewert, and Jack Krier. Kolton (not pictured) is in PreK and son of Mike and Kelly Edstrom. JaNoah is in 3rd grade and son of Linda Siewert. Jack is a 4th grader and son of Mark and Sara Krier.

Frolich, Lowrie, and Ladewig are Wrestlers of the Week; Youth Open Mat Moved to Tuesday

The youth open mat practice originally scheduled for Monday has been moved to Tuesday night at 6:00 PM due to the possible snow storm on Monday.

Our Wrestlers of the Week include Jason Frolich, Keagan Lowrie, and Egan Ladewig. Jason is a kindergartner and son of Tricia Noben. Keagan is in 2nd grade and son of Justin Lowrie and Kari Lowrie. Egan is a 6th grader and son of Matt and DeJae Ladewig.

The singlets, warm-ups, and t-shirts are all in and can be picked up at practice.

Tuesday- Youth open mat practice 6:00 to 7:15 PM.
Friday & Saturday- Varsity at The Clash at RCTC.
Saturday- Youth individual tournaments in Blooming Prairie and Rushford.
Saturday & Sunday- Badgerland Nationals. Entry deadline is December 28th at noon.
Sunday- MN/USA Folkstyle Qualifier in Stewartville.

Lohmann, Dohrn, and Hall are Wrestlers of the Week

A HUGE thank you to our youth parents that helped with the scrimmage on Friday night. It would not be possible without you. It was a great night of wrestling, learning, and fun.

Our Wrestlers of the Week and showing off their belts are Brody Lohmann, Colby Dohrn, and Dalton Hall. Brody is a kindergartner and son of Duncan and Jennifer Lohmann. Colby is in 3rd grade and son of Perry and Carrie Dohrn. Dalton is a 6th grader and son of Aaron and Amber Hall. Congratulations boys and keep up the good work!

The youth wrestling shirts and warm-ups are in. Please pick them up at practice tomorrow. Lacey will be in the concession stand or hallway handing them out. No word on singlets yet.

Tanner Zielsdorf and Bakster Arendt are Wrestlers of the Week

Congratulations to Tanner Zielsdorf and Bakster Arendt for being recognized as the Wrestlers of the Week! These two young men were the first to earn the right to bring home the title belt. Tanner is a kindergartner and son of Paul and Shannon Zielsdorf. Bakster is in 2nd grade and son of Nate and Mindi Arendt.

Many youth wrestlers took part in area tournaments this weekend. Great to see so many kids active and enjoying the sport of wrestling.

Youth Practice Starts Monday

The youth wrestling season officially kicks off tomorrow night! Grades PreK and K start at 5:45 PM in the old wrestling room. Grades 1st through 3rd at 5:45 PM in the new wrestling room, followed by grades 4th through 6th at 6:45 PM. A reminder that their fingernails should be trimmed and to carry in the shoes they will wear during practice. We welcome parent help during practices. Not registered yet or want more information? 5002 Club

15 youth wrestlers were introduced to the crowd on Friday night before the varsity dual against Lake City. They were recognized for finishing the 5002 Club Challenge this past summer/fall. Members include: Owen Lexvold, Mason Edstrom, Samuel Moore, Leo Beyer, Lincoln Toombs, Ryan Lexvold, Isaiah O’Reilly, Isaac Moore, Kaleb Lochner, Brennan Sheda, Jent Beyer, Cain Lexvold, Gabe Tupper, Jack Krier, and Ryan Stimets.

InnerDrive Camp

12 youth wrestlers attended the InnerDrive Wrestling practices at RCTC this fall. They were: Samuel Moore, Cain Lexvold, Jack Krier, Kaleb Lochner, Ben Murray, Lucas Schiell, Cole Schiell, Gabe Tupper, Isaiah O’Reilly, Isaac Moore, Ryan Lexvold, and Mason Edstrom (not pictured).

The youth wrestling season (PreK-6th grade) will be starting soon and we’d like you to join us! We hope to relay this information to as many parents and youth as we can. Please help us out by sharing this post!

New to wrestling or looking to try it again? We are offering a free practice on Tuesday, November 24th at 6:00 PM in the Mazeppa school wrestling room. This practice provides the opportunity to learn more about the sport without any commitment. See this flyer for more details.

Registration is Tuesday, November 24th at 7:00 PM in Mazeppa school large gym. We’ll cover practice schedule, important dates, opportunity to order singlets, and other essential information. You can get a head start and download the registration form and bring it with you on the 24th.

Caden Steffen is the #14 Ranked Cadet at 170

Congratulations to Caden Steffen for currently being ranked the #14 170 lbs. Cadet in the country by USA Wrestling’s ‘Future Olympian Rankings‘! This ranking is based upon Caden’s performances at Greco and Freestyle tournaments this spring. Wrestling has given Caden the opportunity to travel to several different states to compete. Caden had a wonderful experience, made many new friends, and can’t wait for next year to do it again! Tell your wrestlers to ask Caden about his experiences, he’d love to share with the little Cougars!

Granite Falls and Fargo Pictures

12 wrestlers spent a few days in Granite Falls, MN this week. They attended a wrestling camp and enjoyed the outdoors.

Hayden had a very rare catch – a gar! Caught with frog at 11:30 PM.

Caden Steffen was in Fargo this week competing against the nation’s best in the Cadet/Junior National Championships. Caden went 2-2 in Greco-Roman and 5-2 in Freestyle.

‘Toss and Tilts’ Camp This Friday/Saturday

When: Friday, July 17th 6:30-8:00 PM and Saturday, July 18th 9:30-11:00 AM
Where: Mazeppa wrestling room OR ‘old-upper gym’ in Mazeppa school
Grades: 4th-12th
Technician: Tony Brown
Cost: Free
Technique to be taught: Tony will work on throwing techniques such as head/body/hip positioning. He will incorporate the use of our two new throwing-dummies as well. Tony will also show his series of tilts for near-fall points and pins.

Setup at 5:00 PM Friday night and tear down immediately after camp on Saturday. Please encourage your wrestlers to help with this! Parents are welcome to help as well.

5002 Club starts Monday, July 20th for our youth wrestlers. It’s a great way to stay active physically and mentally during the off-season.

5 of our youth wrestlers attended the Minnestoa Elite wrestling camp in Apply Valley this past week. The boys worked hard and learned a lot! Attending were Ryan Lexvold, Kaleb Lochner, Jack Krier, Ben Murray, and Laiken Copeman.

ZM Wrestling Staying Active This Summer

Between camps, parades, and tournaments, ZM Wrestling is staying active this summer. Over 25 high school wrestlers are currently at the Malecek Team Camp in Wisconsin Dells. Many wrestlers have also been attending InnerDrive in Rochester.

Caden Steffen traveled to Rockford, Illinois to compete in the Northern Plains Greco and Freestyle Championships, placing 2nd and 4th respectively. Isaiah O’Reilly took part in the Southland Summer Smash last weekend and earned 2nd.

When not on the mat, the 2015 State Runner-Up team rode a float in the Zumbrota parade and will do it again at Mazeppa Daze.
