Saturday at the Orono Invite
Finally, ZM concluded their three day gauntlet on Saturday at the hardest one of all, the Orono Invite. This tournament featured some of the best AAA and AA teams in the state. ZM finished 3rd overall in this tournament.
In an electric atmosphere in Mazeppa, ZM hosted Section 1AA foes Byron and Albert Lea. In the opening match, ZM beat Byron 51-20. For the prime time matchup, it looked to be a close one against Albert Lea. In a night of mostly ups and few downs, ZM had everything going for them. In matchups against their highly ranked guys, we fought hard and did not give up many bonus points. When all was said and done, ZM cruised to a 51-15 victory over Albert Lea! What an exciting night.
On Saturday, ZM varsity went to Bloomington for 3 matches. ZM topped Hopkins/Jefferson 78-6 and Champlain Park 78-6. In the last match, ZM fell to #8 AAA Hastings 37-30.
Jent Beyer and Wilson Nordquist both took first place in the boys 9th grade individual qualifier for state in Jackson, MN on Saturday. Maxwell Ramer earned 2nd place and also qualified for state. These three will represent ZM at the 9th grade state finals next weekend…Good luck boys! Carl Murray, Keagan Haugen, Gunner Mancilman, and Cain Lexvold all finished 3rd in their bracket, while Leo Beyer finished 4th.
ZM youth wrestling had a big day up at the Brawl at STMA! ZM started off with victories over Wayzata and Kasson Mantorville. In the finals of their bracket, they lost to host STMA. In the B pool finals, ZM lost to Owatonna, followed by a win over Becker. Very good job boys!
Congrats to these 4 kids earning Youth Wrestlers of the Week during the 100 takedown fundraiser! These 4 got after it! The older kids got to share the belt as they were wrestling partners and finished up first in the room. Congrats to all 4 of these Cougar wrestlers!
