Cougars Claim 2nd Team Title; 4 Individual Placewinners

They EARNED IT! The Cougars captured their second team state title on Thursday, March 1st with victories over Ottertail Central, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton, and Frazee.

The Cougars had 4 wrestlers selected to the All-Tournament Team: Michael Majerus, Sam Nordquist, Caden Steffen, & Jacob Bennett.

Thank you to the Zumbrota-Mazeppa communities who supported us along the way…what an awesome following we had all season and what an amazing sea of blue that filled the stands at the X on Thursday!

The Cougars also had 4 individual placewinners at the state tournament. Caden Steffen won his 2nd consecutive state title at 182 lbs, Jacob Bennett was the runner-up @ 195 lbs, and Michael Majerus (106 lbs) and Hayden Voxland (170 lbs) both placed 6th.

Eight ZM Cougars will compete in the individual state tournament! The Cougars had 4 Champions and 4 Runners-Up in the Section One Individual Tournament who will compete at the Xcel Energy Center on March 2-3. Congratulations and good luck to all!

Six Cougar wrestlers earned HVL All-Conference honors and six Cougars were selected as All-Conference Honorable Mention…WOW! What an amazing representation for ZM Wrestling, congratulations to all!

Section 1 team brackets have been set…#1 ZM will host #8 St. Charles & #9 Wabasha-Kellogg who will wrestle at 6pm Thursday, Feb. 15. Cougars go 4-0, Two meet milestones

After a nearly two-week break from competition following The Clash, the Cougars were back in action this weekend going undefeated in 4 duals.

We had a full house in Mazeppa for the HVL show-down vs. Goodhue on Friday night! The Cougars had a big win over the Wildcats, winning 35-15.

On Saturday the Cougs traveled west to Wabasso and went 3-0 on the day with wins over Minneota (45-15), ACGC (53-6), and Wabasso-Red Rock Central (43-16).

Two Cougars earned milestone victories as well…Congratulations to Caden Steffen on career win #150 and Spencer Defrang on career win #100!

Community Calendars

Orders are now being taken for the 2018 calendars! Our Zumbrota-Mazeppa Wrestling Community Calendar is one of the largest fundraisers for our program. These calendars run March through February and are personalized with birthdays and anniversaries. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to purchase a calendar for your family and friends and support ZM Wrestling!

Each year, wrestlers head out into the community to gather calendar orders.  We’re also able to take orders through our website.  To order, please click Community Calendar under the store tab and fill out the online form. Calendars are $10 each.  Make your check payable to: ZM Wrestling.

The 2017-2018 Season is upon us!

Just a few updates & reminders as we get the season underway! 

  • Community Calendar Blitz will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18…stayed tuned to your email for details.
  • Online Team Store for clothing orders will be opening this week!
  • Practice begins on Monday, Nov. 20th…be sure to complete registration forms online ASAP via the ZM Schools website.
  • Wrestlers can take part in the Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving morning

    • TIME: 8 a.m.

    •  PLACE: Covered Bridge (library side)

    • COST: Free will donation for Zumbrota area food shelf –   Non-perishable food items or cash

  • CONGRATULATIONS to ZM Cougar senior Caden Steffen who signed a National Letter of Intent to wrestle for the Minnesota Golden Gophers next year!

Haglund Selected as Guillotine 2017 Academic All-State Wrestler

Congratulations to Jarret Haglund for earning a spot on the 2017 Academic All-State Team selected by The Guillotine! Jarret is a wonderful young man who continually works hard both in the classroom and on the mat.
