ZM wins all 3 dual matches in Zumbrota Saturday.

Zumbrota Mazeppa hosted 3 other teams on Saturday at the high school for a quad dual tournament: Centennial, Kenyon Wanamingo, and Owatonna. ZM led off with a 62-15 victory over Centennial, who is coached by Link Steffen’s son, Chase.

In the second match of the day, the Cougars beat traditional AAA power Owatonna by 58-13.

Finally, renewing the battle of Hwy 60, ZM topped Kenyon-Wanamingo 39-21. It was great seeing this rivalry happen again, as KW has changed conferences, we see each other fewer times.

Keep it going Cougars!

Varsity Weekly Update. ZM finishes 7th out of 32 teams in National Clash Duals; ZM Rolls over Pine Island 64-3; Quad Dual on Saturday in Zumbrota

ZM wrapped up the Clash duals on Friday/Saturday last week finishing 7th overall as the number 24 seed in the 32 team tournament. ZM started off strong on day 1 with wins over the #8 seed Slaley, Missouri 30-29 and the #9 seed Vacaville, California 30-29. They also faced #1 overall seed STMA (and according to FloWrestling the #4 HS dual team in the nation) in the pool championship and was defeated 55-9.

Day #2 we wrestled #4 seed (and current #1-A in MN) Jackson County Central and defeated them 42-21. The last two matches, we lost to #2 seed Waverly ShellRock (Iowa) 35-25 and #3 seed Osage (36-28). For those keeping track ZM did not have a easy road to their finish, having to face the #1, #2, #3, #4, #8, and #9 seeds in the 32-team tournament. Very impressive!

Last Thursday, ZM rolled over Pine Island 64-3 in an HVL dual in many close matches that went in our favor.

Finally, on Saturday beginning at 9am, we will be hosting a quad with Owatonna, Kenyon Wanamingo, and Centennial at Zumbrota High School. If you get a chance, stop by and watch some great wrestling! For those that can’t make it, we will offer a live stream with announcers. We will be posting the link to the live stream on Facebook.

YOUTH Update. Holst, Markham, and Hammel earn WOTW; K-6 compete at NRHEG; Youth Individual Tournament this Friday night!

The K-6 team wrestled at NRHEG last Saturday. We have a young youth team and I heard there was a lot of good wrestling! Below are a few of the pictures from the duals.

The youth wrestlers that earned the Wrestlers of the Week honors were the following:

PreK/K: Zander Hammel

1-3 Grade: Axel Markham

4-6 Grade: Bo Holst

As a reminder, this Friday night is our youth tournament! Weigh ins are between 4:30-5:45. ZM wrestlers try to get there early to get weighed in before the crowd arrives! This is a great time and I hope to see everyone there!!
